American missionary Lorenzo Warriner Pease arrived in Cyprus after a long journey across the Atlantic Ocean:
Today we have spent off Lefca. The atmosphere has been fine. During a part of the day the wind was blowing quite fresh; but on the whole it has been very comfortable. Lucinda was sick last night and this morning. I made a temporary bed for her on the transom, and was obliged several times to raise her up for the purpose of letting the cabin boy get out to tools for the men to use in repairing the long boat. They have been-a part of them- engaged all day at work and the rest of them during a portion of it. I was greatly distressed for Lucinda who suffered much pain and became very impatient at having her disturbed so many times, when she was not able to lift herself up nor dress herself without assistance.
