“Shellish and I out for the day in his car. To Kato Zodia where there was a fair. Then to Pano Zodia where we watched a wedding in the church. The bridegroom had forgotten his ring and long pause until it was sent for. To Morphou, where we had coffee. To Karavostasi where I inspected the Swedish excavations of the Greek Theatre, will be most interesting. To Lefka, where we had lunch, then to the Police Station where with Corp. Apostolo (also Ptc Hussein Shevki who we had brought with us) we discussed the best means of stopping the incessant digging for antiquities. Apostolo will, I am sure, do his best to help us, a fine looking fellow with the blood of princes in his veins. He is one of the only people here who though he talks most respectfully, looks at one and stands as if he was talking to a pier.”
