Keith Henderson was one of the first pointillists of England. This watercolour depicts a Greek Cypriot villager proudly resting against his camels, those lying on the ground. The vast expanse of reddish earth demarcated by the mountain range in the background suggests that this is a depiction of a scene somewhere in the Mesaoria plains close to Famagusta. The use of camels as means of transport in Cyprus is frequently attested in paintings. The colourful decoration of the camels adds an almost comic touch to the picture. A tree in the centre of the painting competes with the large figure of the Cypriot man as its focal point.
