Description:

The artist’s works are of a historical value as they portray Cyprus of the early twentieth century from a Greek Cypriot point of view. No such scenes exist in the area today. The bougainvillea is found all over Cyprus as is the use of wooden green fences. The green colour was introduced by the British so much for fences as for shutters. It was identified with British colonial architecture. Interestingly, immediately after the departure of the British, it was replaced by blue, the colour of Greek nationalism. To this day, whenever a colonial building is restored, it continues to bear the green colour in shutters and doors. The house is typical of urban traditional architecture, with flat roof and straight lines.
