Description:
Kenneth Howard is an English artist, president of the New English Art Club (1998-2003). He was official war artist to Northern Ireland, Hong Kong, Cyprus and Canada with the British Army. He paints in the traditional manner with tonal precision, and he is fascinated by light. He gained the Order of the British Empire (OBE) in 2010. This watercolour portrays the village of Mammari painted by the artist in 1982 when parts of the settlement remained (as they do today) in the buffer zone. Shades of green intercepted by patches of light appear to dominate the picture. In fact, the whole scene is bathed in light.
