Description:

This is a view of the town of Limassol from the sea, one of the many made by artists who painted views of Cyprus aboard a ship. In the centre of the painting, stands the large church of Agia Napa which, along with a line of tall cypress trees and a slender minaret, competes with the masts of the boats on the seafront. A rather unrealistic inclusion of snow capped mountains forms the background of the picture. The technique and colouring used, the heavy paint strokes of dark and light blues, give a special effect to the picture. The blues appear to frame horizontally the actual aspect of the town expanding just under the hills on the seafront.
