Description:
The Belgian Joseph Vermeiren was a geologist who lived in Cyprus and was married to a local Cypriot woman, Agni Markides. He was an amateur artist who held a number of exhibitions in Cyprus. This oil depicts the left hand side of the harbour of Kyrenia which shows the customs house and the lighthouse. On the right hand side the artist has captured part of the castle of Kyrenia. Figures of fishermen with their nets are illustrated going about their daily chores while passers-by watch. The scene is of an uneventful ordinary day in the life of Kyrenia.
