The Illustrated London News sent special artists to portray the island of Cyprus in 1878. It also used sketches by military personnel based on the island in order to introduce the new acquisition to the British public. Kyrenia remained for many years one of the most favourite depictions. The engraving gives a birds’ eye view of the harbour of Kyrenia including the castle, many sailing ships and the backdrop of the Kyrenia mountain range.
