Description:
Andrew Henry Harper was a British artist who travelled in the Near East at the end of the 19th century. This oil painting is the original work portrayed in the Illustrated London News 1878. The mountains are of the Kyrenia range and the seashore is one of the few in the northern coast not built up. The work belongs to the romantic topographical school of British art. The picture portrays the pink colours of sunset so often encountered in the Near East. Fishing rather than transport boats are depicted in the foreground.
