Description:
The Forest Park Hotel, founded by George H. Skyrianides, officially started operations in 1936. Hidden in the forest surrounding the mountain resort of Platres in Troodos, it was one of the first hotels to be built in Cyprus. Discerning clients such as the late King Faruk of Egypt, Princess Royal Mary of England, and Daphne du Maurier spent many summers in this hotel. During the Second World War, it was turned into an army hospital as well as during the Suez Canal operation in 1956. Although the mouflon that appears in the shaded foreground of the poster does not frequent this locality, it is here used as an emblem of Cyprus. The poster was printed in Greece by one of the first lithographers, M. Pechlivanides.
