Ayia Phila, Cyprus

Creator:

Gluck, Felix, 1923-1981

Ημερομηνία:

ca. 1960

Description:

The artist suffered from tuberculosis and spent two years (1946-48) in a sanatorium in Davos after being imprisoned by the Nazis in Mauthausen (1944-45). Visiting Cyprus in the sixties, he portrayed the well known carob trees surrounding the village of Ayia Phyla near Limassol. This medium of his work is rather rare as he chose to work with pastel on leather. The combination of pastel and leather creates the effect of a hazy atmosphere.
