Printed top centre: A CYPRUS PILGRIMAGE Sketches from Life
Description:
The Graphic Magazine was one of the periodicals which “sent” correspondents to the new colony. In fact in most cases all magazines used local British military or administrative personnel to provide them with information and pictures of the island. This is page 575 and 576 of the November 3rd, 1906 issue. Page 575 features an article entitled ''A Cyprus Pilgrimage: Sketches from Life'' by H.D. Collison-Morley. The article is illustrated by a series of engravings entitled ''A Party of Pilgrims Arriving at Kykkon Monastery'', ''A Zaptieh, or Mounted Policeman'', "A Sideshow in the Camel Lines'', ''A Typical Cypriot Dance'', ''Tourists Starting for Kykkon Monastery'', ''A Village Headman'', and ''En Route for Mount Troodos: A Halt to Water the Ponies''. The article serves as a travelogue for Egyptian and other foreigners visiting Cyprus. .
