Nicosia

Creator:

Frere, Gwendolen, 1872-1958

Tarih:

1902

Description:

Gwendolen Frere was the daughter of Judge Bertle Frere who arrived in 1897 and took up judicial duty in the British administration of Cyprus. She was an amateur artist who executed a series of watercolours of Nicosia and Kyrenia. Nicosia buildings, in contrast to those in the Kyrenia watercolours, appear more urban with their tiled roofs, two storey, and many windows. The viewpoint is from outside the walls and near Famagusta Gate as attested by the tall minaret of Taht-el-kale mosque.
