Cyril Ogborne Collection
The Cyril Ogborne collection contains 157 black and white photographs, two certificates, one cartoon and four letters sent from Cyprus belonging to Cyril Ogborne from 1958, as well as 6 black and white photographs of his brother Gordon from 1951. The collection focuses on the service of British troops at the time as well as buildings the photographer captured while moving around the island.
Cyril Ogborne served with the Welch Regiment of the British army in Cyprus in 1958, mainly in Davlos and Lefka.
The images that comprise the online collection were reproduced from the original black and white negatives. The titles were taken from inscriptions to the photographs when available that justify inconsistencies to the depicted image. Where no inscriptions were available the titles were generated by the cataloguer describing the depicted subject.
The collection was donated by the photographer’s son Paul Ogborne in 2021, to be exhibited and studied. CVAR holds digital reproductions of the originals and shares copyrights with Paul Ogborne.
