This album contains 198 black and white photographs and 9 postage stamps, compiled in an album, taken by Sergeant Geoffrey Smith while stationed abroad in the final years of World War II. The album covers a period of time beginning in August 1941 and ending in April 1945. The locations of the photographs include Israel (Palestine): Jerusalem, Tel Aviv; Egypt: Cairo, Alexandria, Sakkara; Cyprus: Nicosia, Kyrenia, Troodos; Lebanon (Syria): Beirut, and Great Britain: London, Bishopthorpe. Themes within this album include people and locations associated with military service, monuments and ancient sites, holidays and leisure time, and finally the return home of Geoffrey Smith to his family in London. The titles were taken from inscriptions on the album pages, where available, and were otherwise generated by the cataloguer on the basis of the content of the photograph.
