Exhibition: The travels of Ali Bey el Abbassi, a spy in Cyprus

The CVAR, together with the Spanish Embassy in Cyprus, will host an exhibition titled:

"The travels of Ali Bey el Abbassi, a spy in Cyprus",

between 31 May - 13 June 2022, at the CVAR.

Don Domingo Badía y Leblich, (1767-1818), alias

Ali Bey el Abbassi, son of Othman Bey of Aleppo, prince of the Abbassides, descendant from Abbas, son of Abd El Montalleb and uncle of Mohammad.

A traveller, spy and outlander, who advanced colonial policies in various countries in North Africa and Asia, and who carried out leading scientific and political studies of those lands.

Domingo Badía y Leblich, alias Ali Bey el Abbassi, was born in Barcelona 1 April 1767. During his early years he followed his father’s administrative career as secretary to the governor of the citadel, and in 1779 moved to Granada. He became war accountant of Granada and simultaneously studied Fine Arts, Physics and other scientific studies.

The CVAR is open Monday - Saturday from 09:30 until 17:00
