The American missionary Lorenzo Warriner Pease on the origins of the people living north of Limassol who are believed to be descendants of the Crusaders as it is thought that Richard the Lionheart’s army camped in the area:

There is a boy with Mr. Charalambos who says he is from Agros or Pelendri and that he is of English descent. He has grey eyes, and is not impossible that he may have descended from them. At least this is tradition.
