Rupert Gunnis noted in his diary:

Over to Kyrenia with H.E. and Lady Storrs. To see the Recreation Room I have given to the Police; they seem very pleased with it and use the gramophone every evening. N.C. Lanitis to tea. He told us that he remembers Sir Basil Zacharoff when he was here. He used to keep a general store here in those days, called himself Z.Z. Williamson. He was really a Constantinople Greek of most dubious origin, though he styles himself in Debrett as “son of Basil Zacharoff of Paris”.
