Rupert Gunnis, ADC to Sir Ronald Storrs, writing in his diary included some gossip:
Museum meeting in the morning, nothing important settled. Took Lady Storrs out in my car to Dickomo over a vile road and picked bunches of wild narcissus and dry up roots. Had a puncture coming back. To professor Dawkin's lecture on Machera, not good, a bad delivery and uninteresting material. After dinner collected Harold Armstrong and to the big dance at the Magic Palace called the "Bal Rouge" very well done and I really rather enjoyed it, good luxury dresses. Miss Chrysafini was chosen queen and received endless prizes, among other things silk stockings, corsets, cigarettes, a husband and the professional attendance of a doctor and midwife for her "accouchement" when the time comes!
