Rupert Gunnis, ADC to Sir Ronal Storrs, wrote to his mother about his busy days just before Christmas:
We have been to a lot of different things including a Bazaar, a football match and a dance, the latter was quite good fun and was held in the local theatre which is also a dance hall; I was amazed what a good band they had and there must have been about 300 people there, nearly all Greeks, some of whom I danced with, at present conversation is a bar.
We inspected the Museum and I have promised the Director to go and help him arrange his new finds, the Director is supposed to bring every find to the Governor, of late years this rule has lapsed, but I soon resurrected it, and only a few days ago the little man brought some gold earrings here which had been found in a tomb.
