Ruby, wife of Charles Freedman Jackson, who was director of the Skouriotissa Mines and lived in the Skouriotissa monastery complex, wrote to Harold and Charlotte:

After dinner we drove home by way of Mr Gunther’s where we had tea. I was given a bouquet of lovely roses and beautiful violets. A native was at the door with antiques so Charles brought them for Mr Gunther who is a great authority on them and said these came from the time of Christ. We will have to take them to the Museum and have them sealed up with a permit to send them out of the country. I will label who they are for and send the box to Harold’s office.
