It is interesting to see how the names of places were understood and written by the visitors. Johan David Akerblad, a Swedish orientalist and diplomat, kept a record of his visit to various places in Cyprus:

May 30th: Left Bisuri at half past 4 – at quarter to 7 a small stream with a bridge – half past 7 Kuklia. Half past 12 Timis. 2 o’ clock Aschelia – half past 2 Jerokipo – 3 o’ clock Pafo.

May 31st: Palea Pafo.
