The village of Limassol has about 200 taxed Greeks. It is estimated that the Greek population is from 1000 to 1500 and the Turkish about 1000. There are four churches in the town and vicinity and two large mosques, some small. Their harbour had 5 vessels lying in it. Sometimes there are 15 or 20, more usually however only from 2 to 5 or 6 and sometimes none. Their commerce is chiefly carried on with Greece, Syria and Egypt. The exports are wine, rakie, spirits and carob fruit. They have one school of about 25 scholars or so which is destitute of many advantages. The situation in Limassol is rather pleasant. A long point runs out south of it. The mountains rise back of it in three ranges. The bay is semi-circle and is deeper near shore than that of Larnaca. I should think it is better. Ancient Limassol is nearly in ruins.
