“Down to Larnaca with HE and Lady S. To lunch with the Franciscan father in the monastery, cold but quite a good lunch. I sat between Luce-Smith and Fa Celestine who is Fa Pascal Rawlinson’s secretary. To look at the church and buildings, much too big for a tiny community of three that there is now. The church not bad considering its date, 1846. Then to see the Convent and girl’s school. Next a visit to Mr Pierides, uncle of Luki and to see his collection. Much the best I have seen so far in Cyprus, really good stuff. Tea with Luki Pierides. I got some antiques out of him. We also had a meeting with the local magnates on the pier to discuss its future as the sand is drifting in and making it useless, a man can walk out to the end and the water not much above his waist.”
