Village Scene

Creator:

White, Ethelbert (1891-1972)

Tarih:

ca. 1950

Places:

Cyprus

Description:

A member of the London group since 1915, the artist was a regular exhibitor at the Royal Academy. His paintings were used by the Cyprus Government Office in London to attract tourists, especially his views of Kyrenia. The oil painting is of a rustic scene from a village whereby the women yet again form the labour force of the society. On her donkey she is setting off for the fields while another woman is seeing her off. The whitewashed houses are humble, with red tiled roofs and have animal pens adjacent to them. This appears to be a village in the mountains as one can discern a large pitched roof in the background and many trees.
