Description:
These two watercolours were created during a period of civil unrest and guerilla fighting instigated by the local Greek organization EOKA against the British. They provide a rare insight into military tents used by British troops at the time. Given the political context in which the drawings were created, the artist’s choice of theme appears more significant than the actual detail of army gear illustrated in the watercolours. Iron beds, the wireless, uniforms and boots feature haphazardly in the pictures. The dry grey and white colours reflect a somber army atmosphere.
