Description:

Born in Bucharest, Romania and moved to Munich in 1970, Ioanna Rheinfelder was a graphic designer who did woodblock work, wall painting, musical and theatrical activities. The artist spent some time in Cyprus pre-1974 and was a friend with the Cypriot painter Adamantios Diamantis. She was an ethnographer intrigued by the Cypriot culture and life and tried to adopt her work and her titles to reflect Cyprus. Probably referring to Cypriot hospitality, the artist illustrates her experience with another pun on the say ‘open doors’. The script appears in different languages on top of the door alluding to the ironmongery decorations often found on Cypriot doors. The multi-lingual inscriptions allude to the multi-national composition of people visiting Cyprus.
