Description:
This watercolour depicts a lane just behind the Kyrenia harbour which includes two prominent features: The church of Chrysopolitissa (Church of Panagia Chrysopolitissa) and a Lusignian fountain. Both constructions are thought to have been built in the 14th century. The lane is defined left and right by buildings mainly of sandstone. It is this yellow colour of the sandstone that inspired the artist and provided the warm effect in the picture. A lone female figure is working on the side, indicating a sparse population of a small fishing town.
