Description:

The mosque was built in Nicosia over a Byzantine church in 1845. A medieval church must have stood there in the 14th century as many gravestones of the Lusignan period were found as paving stones for the floor. In the graveyard is the tomb of Kiamil Pasha four times grand vizier of the Ottoman Empire. A monument to his memory was erected by Governor Sir Ronald Storrs in 1927. Close by is the tomb of Issak Pasha, a Turkish admiral exiled to Cyprus in the 19th century. The picture includes a cypress tree often planted in Turkish cemeteries.
