Description:
Sinclair was ADC to Sir Garnet Wolsely in 1878 and remained in Cyprus for some years. He was an amateur painter who made a series of watercolours of Cyprus, sold with the contents of his family home Lady Place in 1990. The watercolour portrays Ayia Varvara church, annex of the Stavrovouni monastery. It was the first stop of the visitors before climbing the mountain and it never had more than one or two caretakers. The yellow earth indicates a hot summer’s day.
