Description:
This pen and watercolour painting affords a macroscopic view of one of the main streets of Famagusta walled city leading to St. Nicholas Cathedral. The shops are either built on the foundations or are located within medieval buildings. At the far end, stands the cathedral. The figures are probably Turks as in 1957 the Greeks were ousted from the town after inter-communal clashes took place. The artist provides an almost monochrome picture, thus emphasizing the old and sad aspect of the town which appears half deserted by its inhabitants
