Τhe eighth sitting of the Larnaca Municipal Council convened to discuss various matters

Τhe eighth sitting of the Larnaca Municipal Council convened to discuss various matters:

The President: I wish to ask whether individuals have the right to expose wool in public streets. A member of the public was summoned to the court and warned that Dr Falwasser strongly objected to the practice which he affirmed was prejudicial to public health. Notwithstanding this, the member still continues to defy the warning. Mehmet Ali Effendi said that as the doctor had condemned the practice it should have been immediately stopped. S Christophides could not express an opinion as Mr Jacobides (the offender) was his relative but could recommend that some little time be allowed after issuing any municipal order…The president had not found any accounts by Mr Panayiotakis Saripolos (Mayor before the British occupation). He believed that he owed an amount to the municipal treasury. It was decided to invite him to appear at the next meeting to render his accounts and produce whatever books.  The President proposed that measures for the Turkish mosque be taken, the wall of which had collapsed and allowed the water to penetrate into the mosque itself. He believed it to be his duty to do all in his power to repair the mosque. …The President said that H.E. gave orders to sell by auction the old Konak at Larnaca and the amount received from the sale to be devoted to the repairs of the mosque. The Council agreed to this. …It was decided that Council members absenting themselves without a tangible reason should be fined.
