Rupert Gunnis, Inspector of Antiquities and ADC to Sir Ronald Storrs, was endlessly fascinated with his discoveries on the island:

Opened a few more Iron Age poor tombs, one was interesting as I found an amphora in it which contained calcined bones which showed that the body was burnt  before burial. Walked to the little church of Panayia near Livadhia village, it contains the remains of a Venetian mosaic in the apse, much ruined but still contains a blue figure on a gold background.
