Ruby, wife of the director of Skouriotissa Mines Charles Freedman Jackson, living in the Skouriotissa monastery complex, wrote to her siblings:

We drove to Nicosia and came back yesterday. We had the nicest time. Charlie had a small filling out of a tooth to have fixed. There is a good dentist in Nicosia but he had left for Egypt but his assistant is good too, a graduate of the American college of Beirut. We went first to the dentist’s, from there to the American Academy for Girls where we got Miss. Wilson to come to the hotel to dine with us. Mss. Weir, the other teacher, could not come. We had a good dinner of soup, chicken and boiled potatoes, roast port and potatoes, a good Greek dessert and coffee. After dinner we all visited in the hotel lounge. Mr. Sides was with us for a while and we had a lot of fun for we were all Americans but Miss. Buckley.
