In the afternoon with Alexis to the Omeryeh mosque where I did some rubbings then for a walk in the silversmiths bazaar, nothing but trash. They are taking down one of the minarets of Ayia Sophia as it is dangerous. All the Turkish quarter is decorated as it is “Independence Day” or whatever the Turks call it though Alexis told me that in the evening he asked a Turk why he was dancing and singing and he said “he’d no idea”.
