The American missionary Lorenzo Warriner Pease notes about Cypriot people

The American missionary Lorenzo Warriner Pease observes about Cypriot people:

It is a custom for the men to sleep for two or three hours in the afternoon through the summer, while the females indulge in naps to a small extent only. After reflection and conversation, I concluded that the reason is this: the men drink more or less wine at dinner, while the women seldom drink at all.
