From the diary of Judy M Ferris, an ornithologist:

The Turkish villages have their houses first made of dry mud but there are also many well to do bungalows dotted about, there are rows of nicely built white stone with red tiled roofs. On the road to Nicosia I saw my first convoy of camels.
