Edith Belcher, wife of US Consul General to Cyprus, Taylor Belcher, remembers:

At half past nine Joan and I drove down to Pentaya hospital to see Trucia. The hospital, entirely owned and run by the Cyprus Mines Corporation, is beautiful, clean and perfectly run. In complete contrast to the British Military Hospital which, I understand, is typically British, uncomfortable, not too clean and sloppily run. Trucia very comfortable and room overlooking the golf course and sea. The nurses are Greek and Turkish and English and most efficient and handsome. We were terribly impressed with entire setup. Stayed about two hours. Drive down was perfectly beautiful-one of the loveliest parts of the island. Drove up the mountains of Skouriotissa to see Betty Burgess. Lovely old home-got there two hours late- but at half past twelve and had the coffee and sandwiches intended for the eleven o’ clock coffee.
